Introducing one of our talented September suppliers…

It’s Saturday and we’re feeling extra excitable because…

All of our August Tech Tribes boxes are officially in the post! We can’t wait for you guys to start receiving them. Please make sure to tag us in your unboxings, so that we can join in the fun.

With our two year anniversary fast approaching and lots of exciting plans flying around at Book Box Club HQ, we thought it was time to give you a clue about one of the beautiful items that we’ll be packing into your INTO THE WILD boxes come September.

We’ve been following this very talented artist since the dawn of Book Box Club’s existence and have been huge fans of her nature inspired drawings for such a long time. Now, we are thrilled to be teaming up with this lovely lady on an exclusive item for our anniversary box!

At Book Box Club we like to celebrate the talented illustrators, makers, crafters and designers who help us make our boxes great so we thought we would get to know our August featured artist a little bit better with our Crafty Q&A….

BOOK BOX CLUB CRAFTY Q&A
Georgine Makes

We know you love books – so tell us about your favourites.

I love anything byTrudi Canavan (The Black Magician Trilogy is amazing) and Terry Pratchett, the worlds they create are so real and absorbing. My favourite recent reads are How Not to be a Boy by Robert Webb and Mad Girl by Bryony Edwards.

Which of your creations are you proudest of and why?

I think it has to be the Winter Birds illustration, because it was the first piece that kickstarted my love for stippling as a drawing technique. Before then I only really drew in pencil and was a bit afraid to try new things.

What does your arty area look like?

Even though I have a desk, I usually draw on my sofa surrounded by cushions, blankets and reference books. It’s all about comfort for me!

What do you eat whilst you paint and what do you listen to?

I like to have a pot of mint tea on the go while listening to my whatever my current music obsession is, or if I can’t decided I’ll put on a NO.SLEEP mix by Odesza and zone into drawing.

Have you ever had an artistic disaster?

Too many! I regularly jog myself when I’m drawing in pen and have to either start again or change what I’m doing. Or I don’t let the ink dry before rubbing away any pencil lines and end up smudging the piece.

What inspires you to craft and how did you begin?

A lot of my inspiration comes from nature and the folklore around it. Growing up in Wiltshire meant I heard a lot of stories based on Pagan beliefs, that love for the old tales has definitely stayed with me. I’ve been drawing since I can remember, but my current style started when I was in a creative rut a couple of years ago. I stumbled on a bird watching book in a secondhand bookshop and fell in love with the birds, so I decided to try stippling out and really enjoyed it!

Apart from making beautiful things and reading what do you like doing?

I am a big foodie. You can regularly find me eating, cooking, or pinning recipes and planning what I’m going to eat and cook next.

How stunning are  Georgine’s  illustrations?

Some of you old school Book Box Club members might well recognise Georgine’s gorgeous artwork already. We are lucky enough to have worked with Georgine once before, on the unashamedly bookish calendar, which we featured in our January Geeks Unite box. We ran a competition to find a whole host of artists to work with us on our first ever Book Box Club calendar – and Georgine’s  detailed ‘Reading Nook’ illustration was one of the gorgeous winning entries. We have been looking forward to commissioning another of Georgine’s pieces ever since and our September box seemed like the perfect opportunity!

This September, all lucky recipients of a Book Box Club INTO THE WILD box will be treated to whimsical and very useful bookish item, illustrated by Georgine Makes and inspired by one of our favourite childhood classics. We are so excited for you all to see the finished artwork! You can see more of Georgine Makes’ work and discover some of her projects to date over on her etsy shop or her page on Instagram.

Love, Libby and Kate xx
