Introducing one of our talented January suppliers…

Happy Saturday everyone!

Now that all of your December boxes are safely in the post (hooray!), we are focusing all of our energies into creating the most fantastic box to kick off 2019 (and struggling to get our Christmas shopping done!).

Our January theme will be STORYTELLERS and we can promise you this box is one not to be missed!  To tease your bookish tastebuds, we thought we’d share with you one of the very talented suppliers that we’ve teamed up with for January.

So without further ado, we are thrilled to announce that our STORYTELLERS box will include an exlusive item designed by one of our favourite bookish companies… Literary Emporium!

We have been such huge fans (and customers) of Literary Emporium’s forever! Rio’s intricate, unashamedly bookish illustrations and gifts are so gorgeous. We love how she takes inpiration from some of our favourite quotes and authors and as soon as we started dreaming up our STORYTELLERS theme, we knew that we had to get her on board!

This January, we’ll be sending our members a stunning unique item, with artwork by Literary Emporium. Trust us, this is an absolute must-have for any creative writing kit. If you’re yet to discover Rio’s gorgeous creations, we urge you to go check out her website.

At Book Box Club we love getting to know the suppliers that we work with, because they are a huge part of what makes our boxes so special!  So we thought we would find out some more about Rio and her love of literature in our Crafty Q&A…

Book Box Club Crafty Q&A
Literary Emporium

We know you love books – so tell us about your favourites!

I find my favourites change depending on what mood I’m in, but my all-time favourites include Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, 1984, The Bell Jar and The Handmaid’s Tale. These books have been a huge source of inspiration to me.

Which of your creations are you proudest of and why?

I’ve absolutely loved creating my enamel pin collections with my favourite being the Shakespeare’s Heroines set. It’s been so interesting to research Shakespeare’s female characters and find suitable quotes to inspire a pin design. I’m really pleased with how they’ve turned out and they seem to be proving popular with my customers.

What does your arty area look like?

Whilst I don’t really have an arty area as I do all my drawing on my iPad, we do have two rooms dedicated to Literary Emporium which is where we produce and pack all our orders. It’s kitted out with IKEA storage which we couldn’t live without as we like everything neatly organised!

What do you eat whilst you craft and what do you listen to?

I’m a serial snacker and always have emergency chocolate in my desk drawer for when I need a sugar boost. My current chocolate of choice is maltesers which aren’t the healthiest thing to be snacking on!

I usually listen to random playlists of Spotify when I work, but I also love listening to true crime podcasts like My Favourite Murder.

Have you ever had a crafting disaster?

Luckily nothing major! Just the standard accidentally super-gluing your fingers together, but I think that’s a rite of passage for all crafters!

What inspires you to craft and how did you begin?

Books are a huge source of inspiration and I began combining crafting and literature when I was bored in the evenings after coming home from my day job. I opened an Etsy shop and it just sort of grew from there. One of my favourite parts of the job is finding inspiration from books and quotations to create new products.

Apart from making beautiful things and reading what do you like doing?

I love walking – in my opinion, there are few things better than a long walk in the countryside. I went on a walking holiday to the Brecon Beacons this year, and despite it raining the whole time, I had the best time!
